Erin Fraser

Dr. Fraser completed her Bachelor of Science in biology at the University of Guelph in 1993 and subsequently obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1998. In 1999 she completed a Master of Science in Epidemiology at the University of Guelph. Dr. Fraser was awarded a number of scholarships, including the Ontario Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology. Her MSc research was conducted in Honduras where she investigated the role of small livestock in hillside farm ecosystems and co-operated with sociologists, agronomists and farmers to identify the key constraints and opportunities related to small livestock health and production. She has experience with participatory research techniques,assessing the disease risks of wildlife translocations and developing surveillance programs for monitoring fish health and antimicrobial use. She has alsoworked with the Public Health Agency of Canada's Canadian Integrated Program for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance. In 2005, she helped found Veterinarians without Borders-Canada and currently sits on its board of directors. Her areas of interest include zoonotic diseases, health surveillance, wildlife health, food safety, risk assessment, climate change, and community participation in research and problem solving processes. contact
